Cards Diaspora: Cardinals Season Dead: Eulogy for 2010
With the Reds holding one of the biggest division leads in baseball, it’ll take a collapse of Mets-ian proportions for the Cardinals to climb their way back.  With that in mind, Aaron Hooks gives you St. Louis’ eulogy for the 2010 season.  One of his better lines: “If July was a hiccup for 2010, then August was a full on heave where the esophagus ceases to work. Then you get AIDS.”

I-70 Baseball: Why Tony La Russa Must Go

It’s been a rough couple of weeks in St. Louis, and it appears that even Don Tony isn’t immune from the hot seat.  La Russa’s stubbornness — among other things — has been driving Cards fans nuts during their recent skid.  While they were willing to overlook some of the crap he was pulling while they were winning, it appears their patience has worn thin.  It probably doesn’t help that La Russa may be close to driving one of the club’s most talented young players away just because of a perceived attitude problem (although I probably shouldn’t laugh — we could see the same thing happen with Mat Gamel).

Fungoes: Pujols, Votto vie for Sabermetric Triple Crown

Albert Pujols and Joey Votto are neck-and-neck in the race for the traditional Triple Crown, but they’re also going down to the wire in the Sabermetric race.  The Sabermetric Triple Crown is defined is leading the league in OBP, Total Bases, and Runs Created.  It’s not perfect, but it more or less mirrors the “traditional” crown of Batting Average, Home Runs, and RBI.

Another Cubs Blog: Stupid Traditions at Wrigley

Believe it or not, some Cubs fans are as annoyed about some of Chicago’s “traditions” as the rest of us.  ACB thinks the Cubs should axe “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and fans should stop throwing back home runs hit by the other team, among other things.

Astros County: Buster Olney: The 2010 Astros are the 2009 Padres

The Astros have been getting a lot of love over the past week from national media outlets, and Astros County picks up on Olney’s recent piece comparing this year’s team to the San Diego a year ago.  I don’t see it.  The only real similarities are that they traded away one of the best pitchers in franchise history and are finishing the year strong.  Houston doesn’t have the homegrown young arms the Padres have, their bullpen isn’t nearly as good, and they don’t have anyone comparable to Adrian Gonzalez in their lineup.
