Jeff Suppan made his last scheduled rehab start Thursday night, this time with AAA Nashville. The line:
Player | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR | ERA |
Suppan | 3.2 | 8 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 12.27 |
Suppan threw 62 pitches, with 44 for strikes. Nine of those strikes led to strikeouts…but eight of them led to base hits, including three doubles.
Is it just me, or should this tell Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin something? Jeff Suppan is no longer an effective starter and should be sent to the bullpen for the rest of this season, and probably for next season as well (especially since he held his opponent hitless for the first two innings, before allowing 8 hits over then next 1 1/3rd innings). Yes, Suppan throws strikes–just very hittable ones.
C’mon, Doug, wake up and smell the coffee–give Mark DiFelice a chance to start next Tuesday…my guess is that he is a better starter than Jeff Suppan at this point.
