Last year, four-year starter Lamont Thompson was released during the Titans final cuts. Courtney Roby, a wide receiver with a once-promising career in Nashville, also was surprisingly introduced to the Turk before the beginning of the 2007 season.
With exactly a week remaining before the start of this years training camp, lets take a look at veteran Titans who could be unexpectedly packing their bags within the next month or so.
Bryce Fisher DE
Acquired via trade at the beginning of 2007, Fisher failed to provide the Titans with the pass-rushing ability he often displayed as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Due to the selections of Jason Jones and William Hayes in Aprils draft and the return of Jacob Ford from an Achilles injury, Fishers spot on the Titans roster may be in danger.
Reynaldo Hill CB
Hills rise from an unheralded seventh round draft pick to a starter at cornerback was one of the teams feel good stories a few years ago. Hill intercepted five passes during his first two years in the league.
However, in 2007, most of Hills contributions came on special teams as the acquisition of Nick Harper knocked Rey-Rey out of the starting lineup.
With Eric King impressing Jeff Fisher in mini-camp and the possible emergence of another seventh-round corner, Cary Williams, Hills roster spot is anything but a guarantee this year.
Chris Davis WR
With 11 players competing for playing time at wide receiver, Davis may need a huge training camp to remain as a Tennessee Titan in 2008.
Davis, who also served as the Titans returner on special teams at times during his rookie year, is also facing a lot of competition in that department as a result of the offseason acquisitions of Chris Carr and scintillating rookie Chris Johnson.
Brandon Jones WR
Brandons inconsistency is well-documented. Despite possessing a ton of talent, Jones has been unable to distinguish himself at WR during his first three years in the league.
Will this be the year that Brandon steps up and finally realize his vast potential, or will the Titans finally tire of his act and send him packing? Stay tuned, folks.
Chris Henry RB
I will admit that I would be utterly shocked if Henry was released only a year after being the Titans second round draft selection in 2007.
However, as a result of the surprising addition of Chris Johnson to the Titans tailback fold, the pressure is on Henry to step up in training camp.
The Titans have already brung in free agents such as Ron Dayne and Kevin Jones (who has signed with the Bears) for visits in May, so they may be willing to sign an accomplished vet as Lendales primary backup if Henry disappoints in August.
Ok, its your turn. Who will be the surprise training camp casualties in 2008?
