Sweep in Pittsburgh improves Crew’s playoff chances

The Brewers’ three-game sweep of the Pirates in Pittsburgh brings their record to 80-56–the Crew will either be 5½ or 6 games up in the Wild Card race with 26 games left depending on if the Phillies hang on to defeat the Cubs.
Friday’s 3-1 win was marked by a solid outing by starter Dave Bush, supported by Ryan Braun’s 3-run homer in the first.
Saturday’s 11-3 win had the Crew collecting 16 hits on the evening in support of starter Jeff Suppan. Suppan only allowed 2 ER’s over 7 IP, while six Brewers had multi-hit games: Rickie Weeks, J.J. Hardy, Corey Hart, Mike Cameron, Bill Hall and Jason Kendall (Braun and Prince Fielder went 0-for-7 on the night where it didn’t matter much).
Sunday’s 7-0 victory had CC Sabathia hurl a 1-hit complete game shutout for the sweep, while Braun and Fielder bounced back to each go 2-for-5 on the day.
The Crew returns home Monday to open up a 3-game set against the Mets, followed by 4 with the Padres. Callups will happen Monday as well, so look for a few new faces at Miller Park Monday night.
