Sweep! Sweep! Sweep!

Is it a secret that I don’t like Tony La Russa? Because it shouldn’t be. I don’t like the guy. And if the Pirates are going down in this NL Central race (they are) and if the Brewers are going to win this division (they are), I want the Pirates to be the team that takes La Russa’s Cardinals and just sinks them in the standings like a pair of concrete shoes.

Kyle Lohse and Paul Maholm take the mound in this series finale. This will be Lohse’s sixth start against the Pirates in the last two years and the third this year. The Pirates are 2-0 against him this year and even though the Cardinals won two of his three starts against the Bucs last year, he’s only pitched seven innings against the Pirates once. What I want is the suddenly homer-happy Buccos to keep this new trend of hitting the ball over the fence up, to get some runs on the board, and let Paul Maholm cruise to a home sweep tonight. As a Pirate fan, I rarely get what I want.

First pitch tonight is at 7:05.
