Very considerate of AMC to simulcast the Breaking Bad premiere on ESPN last night.
Oh, wait. That was just a sweep.
We knew the Cardinals had the opportunity to make a statement with a 3 game set against the Reds to begin the second half of the season. Unfortunately they stepped up to the mic and gagged all over the stand. That magical 5 game over .500 mark? The Birds are now well within their comfort zone and wearing 3rd place like a Nicole Miller dress.
They’re hitting like they’re wearing one, too.
Our brothers and sisters in the blog-o-sphere often debate the legitimacy of ‘clutch’. And while is hard to come down definitively on one side, I think we can all agree that if there is such a thing, the Cardinals are lacking in it.
Plus, we’ve got the added bonus of the milquetoast FOX announcers openly mocking Mike Matheny when he petulantly wouldn’t pull off the Jon Jay bunt against the Aroldis Chapman Saturday afternoon. These guys wouldn’t badmouth Jerry Sandusky, for shit’s sake. But Matheny’s call was so indefensible that they couldn’t help but chortle about what the hell he was doing.
Plain and simple: this was a disaster people. A major league bed wetting.
Oh, and to all the bootlickers telling me ”MEMBER 2011!” as we watch the Reds and Pirates run away with the NL Central: Take the Cardinals dong out of your mouth. Put it on the table. And welcome yourself back to reality. A miracle comback one year makes not an eternal excuse to blow forever and ever. They’re pros.
They can be accountable.
