Sympathy for Schiano is misplaced. Separate the man from the coach.

Sympathy for Schiano is misplaced. Separate the man from the coach.Bucs fans have grown tired of hating Schiano, almost apathetic to the whole scene now at 0-8. In some circles, fans feel bad for the beleaguered Head Coach, clearly over his head but starting to adapt to the NFL, perhaps 8 games too late.

After a meeting with the Glazers the Friday after getting creamed by Carolina Panthers, Schiano has been more upbeat, more at ease with his players in the locker room. But it’s too late, even going .500 the rest of the way will only get you 4-12, that’s how bad its gotten.

So the natural backlash is to feel for the guy, and granted everyone should, the Coach is a man on the inside. But were not talking about his family or home life, were talking about his collection of friends.  We’re talking about Greg Schiano as Head Coach, who needs to be let go sooner rather than later.

No one will consider an interim coach as a possible savior for the franchise no matter how many games he wins, because the Glazers are going to go for a big name, and Dave Wannstedt has had his chances to win in the NFL, there is a reason he is the special teams coach. He has used up his chances in the pro leagues.

It’s understandable to feel for the guy, no one thinks Schiano is a bad guy. He is probably a stand up guy, a consummate pro with a great heart. Family men usually are. But his coaching, is bad. Whether its his methods, or his message, its wrong for the Bucs, and probably wrong for the NFL. The best result that can come of this is to have him removed, let him and the Bucs heal.

Both sides will heal in time, but before that can happen, the hurt must begin.
