FINAL: Milwaukee Brewers 4, Pittsburgh Pirates 3
W – Oliver Drake (3-2, 5.40) L – Daniel Hudson (1-3, 5.04)
Takeaways
- Josh Bell‘s solo home run in the 6th, coupled with his single in the 2nd and drawing a walk in the 4th (and what should have been a walk in the 8th) might be signs of his struggles at the plate finally coming to an end. Let’s hope. For the night, in 3 at bats, he had 1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI and 1 walk. His batting average is now .235.
- Trevor Williams pitched 6 innings of solid baseball. It was the two batters in the 7th that gave him fits. For the night he gave up 6 hits, 3 runs, walked 2 and struck out 7. His ERA stands at 5.09
Throwaways
- Despite his diving catch for the final out in last night’s Brewers defeat, Adam Frazier proved tonight again why he’s a potent force in the infield – while he was playing outfield. It’s hard to throw shade on a guy who has done so much for the team offensively, but defensively, he is not MLB sharp when he’s playing the unnatural position of left-fielder. He does seem to be adapting to the role, with a particularly strong throw to second to keep Keon Broxton to a single in the 7th, however. He’s hustling, it’s just a very severe microscope when you’re learning on the job.
- Watching Jared Hughes warm up in the Milwaukee bullpen in blue and gold. We’ve already seen him face the Bucs in a different uniform, but it will take a while before it seems “normal.” The numbers may have said the team needed to shift away from him, but he was a wonderful representative for the Pirates in the Pittsburgh community.
- Balls/strikes calls by home plate umpire Jerry Layne in the 8th inning. Bruv must be from Wisconsin…
Line of the Night
Josh Harrison continues to dazzle at the plate and on the basepath. Even though he couldn’t come through in the 9th, in 4 at bats, he had 2 hits, 1 RBI and walked once. His batting average is .297.
