After every game, we’ll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player’s overall value.

He did a great job of being aggressive. He’s obviously not Rondo, but he’s just about as fast and any time you can push the tempo and force the defense to react, good things will happen. Barbosa also has this knack for laying the ball in by banking it somewhere high off the backboard, outside of the square. I don’t know why the Nets couldn’t figure out he was going left.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
He shot 6-12 and had a little bit of a takeover mode in the 4th (He was 4-6 in the 4th), so I’m going to give him the uptick on the offense just for the sake of being clutch with is scoring.
Same with his rebounding, but it’s only slightly up in this department (maybe I should make the arrow smaller). 4 of his 7 rebounds also came in the 4th, but I’m not going to totally overlook the early lack of boxing out.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
You don’t know how badly wanted to turn that arrow around simply because of the missed free throws with just over 30 seconds to go in a three-point game. But I can’t let that outweigh a 22-points-on-12-shots effort. He also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
The numbers don’t look good for Brandon in this one. He shot 4-14 for only 8 points and he got 5 of his shots blocked. He only grabbed 5 rebounds, and was a game-low -23 on the night. Meanwhile Kris Humphries had a double-double. Ouch.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
He made 2 of 4 from deep, dished out 6 dimes, and snuck in to grab a couple of offensive rebounds. A nice game out of Terry, but I feel like the Celtics needed more out of him.
Bench
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
He hit a clutch 3… and… that’s about it.
After the big game the previous night, Green regressed a bit and looked pretty bad. He had 4 turnovers, which account for about a third of the C’s TO’s on the night. And defensively, he let Jerry Stackhouse get by him off the dribble, which led to a Nets basket. That’s inexcusable.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
He was fine in 13 minutes. Made both his baskets, made both his free throws, grabbed a few rebounds, blocked a couple of shots. Decent showing, but not enough time to make a huge impact.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
I want to call this a breakout game… but I feel like he needed to do more scoring for that to really be the case. Still, he made half of his shots and all of his free throws, which is what you want from a shooting guard. The 9 rebounds was really nice, especially since 3 of them came off the offensive glass. He also had 3 assists and 3 steals, and Doc called him perhaps the best defender on the floor.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
He got totally lost on one play that resulted in a Bropez dunk. He spent 8 largely unproductive minutes on the floor at a time where the C’s were hoping he could provide defense and rebounds. He provided neither.
Offense: Defense: Overall: |
8 minutes, no real production to speak of. His biggest contribution of the night will eventual warning Reggie Evans gets for his blatant flop. Seriously… if that doesn’t get a warning from the league, then their rule is irrelevant.
Coaching
Play Calling: Substitutions: Overall: |
I think Doc left Jeff Green on the floor too long in the fourth and didn’t have Leandro Barbosa in enough down the stretch.
Overall
The Celtics should have won this game. But they were on the road, on a back-to-back, without Rajon Rondo. There was a bunch of good and a bunch of bad in this one. On the bad side, they continue to get killed on the boards. They gave up 23 second chance points and 18 offensive rebounds. In a single-digit game, it’s tough to accept an 11 point gap in second chance points. And Green’s step back is disheartening (no pun intended), because you hold out so much hope that every step he takes this season will be moving forward.
But the Celtics still put up 97 points without Rondo, and had they simply executed down the stretch, they would have. We’re hopeful that Lee can build on this game, and the Celtics can continue to put up points while still figuring out their offense.
