This one was different.
Carolina game was bad, because we knew no matter how bad we played, we could have gotten the W.
St. Louis was bad too…slightly improved play still ended up in a loss, when we were right in FG range.
But this loss to the Saints stings even more, because this time, the Bucs have showed a passing offense. The Bucs scored 24 unanswered points, played some better defense, and had 11 point leads twice!
But in the end, there is a reason the Saints never lose at home; and this is what the Bucs have been chasing for years, the Saints that is.
Well newsflash..the Bucs have closed the Gap!
Consider these points;
The Bucs spent every draft pick on offense. Don’t be surprised if they do the same this year, spending every pick on defense. A QB is probably not required, I don’t believe the Bucs are going to be in a position to draft one that high anyways.
At one point, the Bucs were up by 11, Atlanta and Carolina were losing. Had those scores held, the Bucs, Saints, Falcons and Panthers would have all been tied at 2-3. Instead, the Bucs are two games behind Carolina with tiebreaker losses to all three teams at this point, with rematches coming up.
When Murray lined up and nailed that 55 yard FG, 4th longest in Bucs history, every Bucs fan quietly murmured..”Connor Who”? Murray has been money since taking the job, and we should not be hearing any more about Connor Barth.
Another preseason longshot, Danny Lansanah, has pretty much permanently replaced Jonathan Castillas. Considering Jonathan rarely made a play, Lansanah has now returned two pick 6s this season!
Don’t knock the Bucs for not sacking Drew Brees, he doesn’t go down. The D line did its job, they rattled him into 3 Interceptions, stupid throws. There is room for improvement, but the Defensive lIne of Gholston, McCoy and Johnson are starting to play better.
Speaking of playing better on defense, finally we’ve seen some passes defensed this year, and we saw some plays from Banks and Barron, players being called on to show up. Like I said, all defense this May in the draft.
Don’t miss three HD videos in the last article.
Dont blame the refs, the Bucs need to play better football to turn things around. The offense is starting to come together, and there is no reason to suspect Josh McCown should be back as a starter. But the defense seems to just be missing the players. Either way, the Bucs need to cut down the penalties themselves, don’t wait for the refs to do it for you. Learn how to set up on the line! These are basics!
Overall, its nice to see that the Bucs have closed the gap with the Saints, and can play football with Pittsburgh and New Orleans, going 1-1 against those two teams after that disastrous Atlanta game. A win over the Ravens would be huge!
