The Bucs lost another close ‘within a TD’ game, the 5th of the year, this time to the Cleveland Browns, but make no mistake, the culprits in this one are right out in front.
Mike Glennon played a horrible game, and while he did throw two TD passes, he
also threw 2 interceptions and a number of terrible passes. Its obvious every week that Mike Glennon is no starting QB in this league. This is year two for Glennon, he is an excellent back up quarterback.
Bobby Rainey and Mike Evans were the studs of the game, but both calmed down in the second half like Greg Schiano was on the sidelines or something. Last year the Bucs couldn’t score in the 2nd half, and that held fast today.
Next culprit, Bucs SPECIAL teams. Who played special teams? Your backups. What have I been saying for weeks..the Bucs are devoid of talent from having 3 head coaches in 6 years, and here it is in our face. Backups play special teams, and our ST are terrible. Blocked punts, blocked FGs, and no, not one iota of fault falls on kicker Patrick Murray whose kick fell short of a 54 yard kick in 38 degree weather when the football is as hard as a rock. That is like kicking a rock.
Bobby Rainey showed why he needs to be the main rusher on the team, while a lot of people waiting for Charles Sims to play, which could be next week at home.
The defense played better, flying around. Sure there were issues, safety especially. This is not a finished product once again, its nice to see some of this young talent out there playing inspired football.
We’ll get more into details tomorrow, but this one falls on Mike Glennon and the Bucs lack of offense in the final half. The offensive line created holes in the first half, but they were nowhere to be found in the second half. The Browns should not have scored that many points, a 4 point swing on an offsides penalty, the Bucs could have piled up over 21 first half points.
Lets see what the Bucs do against the Falcons next week at home.
