It’s been a busy couple of days for the Lightning organization. Here is your Lightning news update:
- The Lightning re-signed goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and defenseman Matt Taormina to one year, two way contracts worth $650,000 each. The team also signed Eric Neilson to one-year AHL deal and Joey Mormina to a two-year AHL deal.
- Syracuse forward Dan Sexton has decided to play in Europe after receiving a qualifying offer from the Lightning. (Photos/Susan Ferlita)
- Former Tampa Bay captain Vincent Lecavalier will wear number 40 for the Philadelphia Flyers. With his signing bonus and buyout from his Tampa contract, plus his Philadelphia deal, Lecavalier will make the following yearly salaries: $10.8 million in ’13-14 and ’14-15; $8.3 million in ’15-16; $4.8 million in ’16-17 and ’17-18. His total compensation: $39.3 million.
- Martin St. Louis was named a second team NHL All-Star right wing, behind Alex Ovechkin.
- Calgary Hitmen forward Brady Brassart has been invited to Tampa Bay Lightning development camp, which will run from Saturday July 6th through Wednesday July 10th at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum. All practice sessions are free and open to the public.
- The Lightning acquired the rights to defenseman Drew Olson from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for future considerations.
- GM Steve Yzerman said on NHL Live that the Bolts will “probably” wait until training camp to name a captain. He also stated that Ben Bishop and Anders Lindback are the goalies and that he “hopes” one will step up. He stated that free agent signings and trades will be minimal and that Syracuse players will fill out the roster. Yzerman blamed the buyout of Lecavalier on the current cap constraints set forth by the new CBA.
- The Bolts signed forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie to a one year, one way contract.
- Former Syracuse Crunch player and assistant coach Trent Cull will return to the Crunch bench as an assistant coach on Head Coach Rob Zettler‘s staff.
