Preliminary World Cup of Hockey rosters were announced and at least three members of the St. Louis Blues will be competing. Alexander Steen was named to team Sweden, Jori Lehtera was named to team Finland and Vladimir Tarasenko will compete for Russia.
Only 16 roster spots were named for each competing team, meaning that it’s possible other Blues skaters may end up making the cut. Alex Pietrangelo (Canada) and Kevin Shattenkirk (USA) are notable exclusions, but it’s still possible one or both skaters will make the rosters when they’re finalized.
Team North America, a squad created from skaters 23 and under in the U.S. and Canada, could still add Robby Fabbri and Colton Parayko once the rosters are finalized. That’s speculative, but Parayko in particular has proven he can compete with the best.
The World Cup of Hockey is scheduled between September 17th and October 1st.
