Ohio State

Buckeye’s Freshman Tori McCoy was named the Big Ten and National Freshman of the Week on Dec. 13 after tying the OSU single-game record by going 10-for-10 from the floor. She has made 27-of-31 shots (87.1 percent) over the last five games. Stephanie Mavunga has notched a double-double in 4/7 games in which she has played. Transfer Linnae Harper made her Buckeye debut vs. Alabama State on Dec. 16 and scored 15 points to go along with five rebounds.Ohio State had a tremendous second half effort in its win over Cincinnati, limiting UC to just 10 points over the final two quarters and just one point in the fourth.

Per Ohio State Official Site:

Ohio State has an all-time record of 2-16 against AP No. 1 ranked teams.

Both of the Buckeyes’ wins came during the 1987-88 season when they rolled past No. 1 Texas 88-58 at home on Jan. 2, 1988 and then later topped No. 1 Iowa 58-54 at home on Feb. 26, 1988.

UCONN

The Huskies are riding an 84-game win streak, five of their nine wins this season have come against top-15 ranked teams. Four Huskies are averaging in double-figures led by Katie Lou Samuelson at 19.8, Napheesa Collier at 19.4 ppg,  Kia Nurse at 13.1 points per contest. Lastly,  Gabby Williams leads the team in rebounding and assists and is the fourth double figures at nearly 11 points per game.

Outlook

The Huskies are 3-0 all-time against the Buckeyes and have been ranked number one each time they have faced each other. The Buckeyes last fell to them last season at home in one of their early season match-ups against the previous years final four. They are on a current four game winning streak which has featured a near record scoring mark against Alabama State with 118. If the Buckeyes want to hang with the Huskies, they will have to choose to play defense and slow down the Huskie offense that features more than a couple weapons.

The Buckeyes face off against Winthrop at home on Wednesday and then begin B1G play on the 28th at home against Minnesota, both tip-off at 7pm in The Schott.
