Colorado leads Arizona, 5-1 in the 8th inning and TBS Hot Corner has shifted to the MLB.com studios in New York with Vinny Micucci, a blatant New York Yankee fan if there ever was one, and former Red Sox catcher John Marzano. I’m doing my best to ignore them now. Actually, John is good as he has done work on Comcast Sportsnet in Philadelphia and MLB.com, but Vinny annoys me.
As the night wore on, Heather Catlin and Matt Dagostino (I will refrain from calling him “Tool” for this post) were bantering back and forth. Kelly Cross interjected when she had IM’s from fans. For the most part, this works well. There were instances when the TBS studio crew of Ernie Johnson, Jr., Ron Darling, Frank Thomas and Cal Ripken came in. I like the Atlanta portion of Hot Corner. MLB.com’s portion in the 4th and 8th innings is ok, but it’s usually the time when I catch up on reading 24, Prison Break and Lost spoilers (no, I’m not going to post them here).
Anyway, the game is mostly in Colorado’s control although there was some controversy when Justin Upton of Arizona was called out for interference in the 7th trying to break up a double play and the D’Back’s did have the bases loaded in the 8th only to come out of the inning with nothing. TBS was on top of the replays and even Matt came in with some decent analysis on the interference call. I do give him his due on that, but I have to take away some points for him matriculating at Syracuse.
The game is winding down and unless the D’Backs rally, Game 1 will be in the Colorado column. I see that Fox will have its own online pregame show before each ALCS game. We’ll be checking that out as well and blog if anything interesting surfaces. It will have a lot to measure up to.
