San Antonio Spurs’ Tim Duncan is on the verge of another milestone in his illustrious NBA career.
TD is currently ranked 28th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 21,781 which puts him 10 points away from tying Boston Celtics’ legend Larry Bird who is ranked 27th with 21,791. Should Duncan notch 11 points tonight against the Houston Rockets, he will surpass Bird.
And TD will have an excellent shot at capturing this milestone tonight. Duncan owns 35 career points-rebounds double-doubles against the Rockets.
Once Duncan passes Bird, the next player is Gary Payton (ranked 26th) with 21,813 points which TD should be able to surpass this season.
Also, it should be noted Bird scored this career points in fewer games (897) while TD scored his career points in 1,063 games and counting.
Knowing Duncan, he might just say this just shows how long has has been playing but it is a testament to Duncan and he should pat himself on the back. For Spurs fans, it might just be another sign the Duncan era in San Antonio is slowly coming to an end.
