Teggart, Wilson Honored By Big East

Dave Teggart celebrates with Chad Christen after kicking game-winning field goal against South Florida to send UConn to a BCS Bowl.

One of the big reasons why the UConn Huskies will be playing in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day against the Oklahoma Sooners is the right leg of placekicker Dave Teggart. It was his clutch 52 yard field goal with 17 seconds left to go against the South Florida Bulls that gave the Huskies the 19-16 win and the Big East’s BCS berth.

And for his efforts, Teggart was named the Big East Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday morning. Linebacker Lawrence Wilson was also named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.

While the Huskies didn’t score an offensive touchdown in the win, Teggart was perfect on his four field goal tries including two from 50 yards plus. He hit on field goals of 40, 22, 50 and 52 yards. He also made his only extra point, keeping him perfect in his UConn career.

Wilson had five tackles, a pass breakup and more importantly the only touchdown UConn would score on a 55 yard interception return.
