Tekett beats Cleveland!

Josh Beckett may have started the game with the lowest ERA in the AL, but he also started the game having never won in Cleveland.  If Josh wanted to keep his good season rolling, he was going to have to do something about that.  Beckett gave up a run in the 2nd inning, but that would be all the Indians could get against him.  Jason Varitek had a lot to do with that though since he not only threw one runner out at second, but TWO!  I can’t think of the last time Tek threw two runners out trying to steal second.  Tek also had Beckett’s back when it came to the offense.  The Sox got on the board in the RBIs from Jed and Gonzo.  Beckett was clinging to a 2-1 lead until Jason Varitek got his first homerun of the season to give the Sox a 4-1 lead.  Beckett left the mound in the 8th with Rich Hill out in relief.  Hill struck out Hannahan and Josh Beckett was seen in the dugout in testy celebration.  Beckett could feel the win!  Papelbon came out for the 9th.  He gave up a solo homerun to Travis Buck, but that was the only damage.  The Sox beat the Tribe for the first time this season.  The Yankees also won, but the Rays lost, so we are solely in 2nd place in the AL East as of last night.
