Temple holds of Penn at the Palestra

-7

It was not a pretty game defensively to say the least for the Owls, who allowed the Quakers to shoot 52% from the floor and knock down 10 three, which allowed to hang around until the end of the game. Temple also turned the ball over a season-high 13 times, but the Owls shot a season-high 50% from the floor with Quenton DeCosey leading the way with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Jayden Bond chipped in posting his second double-double of season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

One of the big keys to this game was the smart play by Josh Brown, who almost had a double-double himself with 10 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and only turned the ball over once. Brown also 4 crucial free throws down the stretch to seal a 77-73 victory for Temple over Penn. Temple seriously needs to step up defense, allowing 70 points or more in three straights games and allowing teams to shoot a high-percentage on field goals. It didn’t help that Jaylen Bond got into foul-trouble early and the Owls were left with Mark Williams and Daniel Dingle protecting the hoop. I cannot stress enough the importance of Jaylen Bond being able to stay on the floor because Temple will get gashed without him.

With the win tonight, the Owls climb back to.500 again this season and will hope to get over the hump next time out in another Big Five matchup against Saint Joe’s at the Liacouras Center this Saturday.
