This was a close game all throughout, but Temple’s lights out shooting was too much for Cincinnati to handle, dropping another game at home 77-70. Temple was led by Quenton DeCosey, who scored a team-high 19 points and was nearly perfect at the free throw line, hitting a couple of key ones down the stretch. Josh Brown had a balanced game with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Brown only turned the ball over twice in the game and has really stepped into his role as quarterback of offense over the past couple of games.
Daniel Dingle had the best game of his collegiate career today with a career-high 14 points off the bench and made a bunch of clutch shots that kept Temple out in front. The Owls bench was a combined 10-14 from the field contributing 24 points to the cause and the bench also made 4 three-pointers. Temple was able to shoot 45%(10-22) from downtown and Cincinnati certainly didn’t expect that after the Owls shot only 30% from three through their first ten games. It’s hard not to win a game when you shoot 50% from the floor and Cincinnati just wasn’t able to convert on the opportunities they had and they also struggled on second chance points even though they were able to grab 14 offensive rebounds.
Temple’s win over #22 Cincinnati marks nine straight years with the Owls beating a rank opponent and it was the perfect way to open up conference play in the American. Temple will looked to build off their impressive win back at home against Houston on Saturday after the new year.
