Today, the Doak Walker Award watch list was released as this award is for the nation’s best running back. The list currently has 53 running backs on it but more can be still added. The semifinalists for the award will be named on November 18 and the finalists will be named on November 24. Finally, the winner will be announced on December 11 during the college football awards show on ESPN.
Out of the 53 running backs on this list, the Temple Owls have one and that is senior Kenneth Harper. Last season, Harper had 613 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. The running back should get more touches and more chances to have big games as it seems like head coach Matt Rhule might have found his starting quarterback in P.J. Walker.
Walker, who was a true freshman starting at quarterback brings both elements of passing and running to the position. In terms of the running game, Walker had 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns. With Walker coming into his sophomore year, expect him to lean on Harper as Temple should be able to make strides in the American Athletic Conference.
Does that mean they will go to a bowl game? Maybe. But let’s see how Walker and company plays in non-conference play before AAC games begin.
