Down by three with eight seconds left in the game, senior Quenton DeCosey got to play hero one last time for this Temple team as he went up for a three-pointer and got fouled. DeCosey made all three free throws to send the game into overtime, but Iowa survived on a last second put back to win it 72-70.
Quenton DeCosey, Jaylen Bond, and Josh Brown played their hearts out in this game combining for 56 points and 32 rebounds. The rest of the team for Temple only tallied 14 points and two of the biggest disappointments were sophomore Obi Enechionyia and senior Devin Coleman.
The two of them laid an egg in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament and their lack of contribution killed Temple. It’s a shame for the seniors to go out like this after they gave so much for this game only to lose in the most heartbreaking way possible.
On Iowa’s game-winning put back, it looked like Adam Woodbury pushed off on Obi Enechionyia to get to the ball, but the refs did not feel like calling it. At this point it’s not that big of a deal because Temple was lucky to force the game into overtime and they had many opportunities to win the game, but couldn’t deliver.
Temple had a magical season that many people did not see coming and everyone should be proud about the season they had led by Coach Fran Dunphy. 2017 could be a rebuilding year for Temple with the Owls losing their leading scorer and rebounder, but anything can happen.
