Its another manic Monday, so its time for my weekly mumblings. There has been some talk about the Raiders being interested in bringing in Terrell Owens. This is one of those moves that once upon a time would be something the Raiders would be on like Brown on Rice, but it is likely just talk.
The Raiders are paper thin at wide receiver. After Louis Murphy and Chaz Schilens, there is Darrius Heward-Bey and Johnnie Lee Higgins, and essentially spare parts. Terrell Owens would be an upgrade in that he could provide veteran leadership and has had seasons with more catches than the entire Raider wide receiving corps.
However, there is also the matter that Owens is 36 years old and his skills are in rapid decline. He is not the playmaker that he once was. He also has a long history of teams and teammates that he has driven the bus over as he moved on to his next team.
Frankly, if this was the 2000-2 Raiders, Owens would be right at home. That team got a lot of mileage from fading receivers Tim Brown, Andre Rison, and Jerry Rice. Those were also teams with strong veteran leadership that could keep egos in check. If the current Raiders were one piece away from being a contender, then Owens would be a great fit.
Most importantly, Tom Cable has stressed that he wants team first high character players. That has been the ethos he has worked to install in the team. That does not describe Terrell Owens.

There is still hand wringing about the concept of playing a Super Bowl in an open air stadium where there would potentially be bad weather. DO IT!
It would be better if they would refuse to host the Super Bowl in domed stadiums and only play it in the weather. It is football. That is a sport meant to be played in the rain, wind, and snow. At the very least Soldier Field and Lambeau Field should each get a Super Bowl oince a decade. That is how football is meant to be played.
Of course, there is a concern that the corporate types who go to the Super Bowl won’t want to shell out the bucksto sit in the snow. So much the better, let real football fans go for once.

Comment of the week: On the article Building blocks: Chris Johnson
Where was the safety
written by Raider X, May 20, 2010
I watched Johnson last year at the coliseum and on many long completions safety help was missing in action. Go back and look at Johnson in deep coverage ou will see it, or when they played a zone coverage you see him look around and the safety is not in position where he was supppose to be. Johnson is lunch pail corner who will give you effort on every play. Can’t ask for much more. Routt is another story we can talk about another day. He needs to show more effort or classroom time…One or both are needed

Classic movie of the week: Back to the Future
Starring: Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson
This is one of those moves that is a cultural touchstone. There are very few who can see a DeLorean who don’t think of the time travel. The speed 88 miles per hour is etched in culture as the speed with which one could time travel. The plot is simple, a kid goes back in time, meets his parents when they are teenagers. His mom falls for him, and he has to get them together or he will not be born. Give it a watch and laugh with it once again. It won’t take all 1.21 jigawatts to do so.
