There is a quick update on the Jason Terry signing. While there was some doubt left while giving the Mavericks a chance to match the Celtics offer, it appears that time has come and passed. Dallas has lost out on the Deron Williams sweepstakes and appears ready to move on without Terry. Terry spoke with Fox Sports South’s Chris Tomasson and had the following to say:
After eight years with Dallas, Jason Terry is leaving the team he helped win at title in 2011. He’s expected to sign July 11 with Boston.
In a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida on Wednesday, the free-agent guard said it’s certain he will depart Dallas. He said he’s still “solidifying a deal” with the Celtics, although not everything is completed.“It definitely won’t be Dallas,” Terry said of where he will play next season. “They didn’t offer (a contract).”
Terry, who had told FOX Sports Florida on Tuesday he would the give the Mavericks a final shot to sign him, offered no reason Wednesday why he might not end up in Boston. All indications around the NBA are Terry will sign a three-year, $15.675 million contract with the Celtics when free agents can sign deals July 11.Terry, 34, said Tuesday he would like to see free-agent guard Ray Allen re-sign with the Celtics. Allen is also being courted by Miami, where he will visit Thursday, and the Los Angeles Clippers, the team he will visit Friday.
“I have no idea,” Terry said Wednesday about where Allen might end up.
He likely didn’t outright name Boston because the NBA is still technically in the middle of the moratorium period. But it is great to see him endorsing the return of Ray Allen. That would create quite the number of weapons Doc Rivers would have on the bench arsenal. Either way it appears Terry is set to join the green.
In addition to the Terry news, the LA Clippers appear to be on the verge of signing Jamal Crawford and as Gary Washburn surmises, if they do, it would likely take them out of the Ray Allen hunt leaving his choice between Boston and Miami essentially.
