Last Week in Texas MMA: Legacy Muay Thai
Legacy Muay Thai 2
Friday, June 11
Stereo Live, Houston, Texas
Mick Maynard and Co. took full advantage of the stylish night club/concert venue Stereo Live to provide a unique fighting event. Even though every fight went the distance, the mixture of 80’s hair band anthems with banging hip hop, scantily-clad arena ceremonies associates and special guests, including Sam Hoger and Mike Swick, helped keep the energy high.
The crescendo exploded in the main event as Gracie Barra Woodlands’ Alex Morano pitted his dynamic and explosive style against the no-nonsense work put in by Cody Philips of Bam Bam Martial Arts.
Both men found moments to demonstrate their incredible toughness. After a sweep sent Philips crashing to the mat, he narrowly avoided what could have been a loss by TKO when he stood up popped his own shoulder into place. Philips would go on to back Morono against the ropes with a ruthless combination, only for Morono to reverse the momentum in in the blink of an eye with a counter-punch. The inconclusive draw decision was hotly contested by all in attendance.

This week in Texas MMA: SWC amateur show cancelled, SWC 11 still on
Supreme Warrior Championship has run into trouble again with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration.
SWC co-promoter D’Oyle Clark alerted texascombatsports.com via text message late Monday night that the commission had stopped SWCA 3 as well as three other unidentified amateur promotions because of a change in the procedure for how the TDLR handles amateur events. “The killing part is, we had everything in before [the] deadline,” Clark said.
Supreme Warrior Championship Amateurs 3 has been rescheduled for August according to Clark, and a press release is forthcoming.
This is not the first time the SWC has suffered a major setback at the hands of the commission. The Plano-based promotion’s tenth show, scheduled for January, due to fighters not getting licensed within deadlines. The event did not take place until April.
As for the professional event, according to a press release issued early Tuesday morning by SWC, the original main event of this Saturday’s SWC 11 in Frisco, Texas between WEC-vet Marcus Hicks (9-3) and Mike Bronzoulis (7-2-1) has been scratched. This was the second attempt to pair up the two welterweights.
Co-promoter D’Oyle Clark told texascombatsports.com that Hicks withdrew due to a rib injury. Bronzoulis was offered a replacement match up, but the Houstonian declined.
The match up between SWC CEO Davis Sylvester (5-2) and Oklahoman Lewis McKenzie (9-3) will be bumped up to main event status.
Sylvester, 37, has won his last two, the most recent of which occurred at SWC 10 in April, submitting Mark Reyes with a guillotine choke. The SWC boss trains with Marcus Hicks in Lewisville, Texas.
The Oklahoman McKenzie’s last journey to Texas in November of last year ended with him submitting to a rear naked choke at the hands of Chad Robichaux in a Legacy FC bantamweight title bout. Since then, the San Da Fight Club product has won two of his last three.
