Texas QB David Ash retires from football due to concussions

Today, Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong announced that quarterback David Ash has decided to give up football. This is sad news as Ash has been fighting through concussions since last season.

Last season, Ash only played in three games due to concussions.  In this season’s opener versus North Texas, he suffered another concussion in the first quarter.

The junior from Belton, Texas has not played in 10 plus games since the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2011, Ash played in 13 games, threw for 1,079 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions. Then in 2012, he played in 12 games and threw for 2,699 yards, 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

After those two seasons, he could not stay healthy due to concussions. He finishes his college career with a 62.9 completion percentage, 4,728 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, 18 interceptions and a 138.6 passer efficiency rating.

I think we can all agree with FOX Sports college football and NFL analyst Joel Klatt in saying that hopefully, Ash can live his life concussion free and healthy.
