The momentum is building for an explosive late-July and early-August in Texas MMA as UFC, Strikeforce, Steele Cage, King of Kombat and Texas Cage Fighting have all recently added match ups to their fight cards.

Aaron Sursa vs. Marcus Sursa headline King of Kombat 9: The Resurrection: The as-of-yet unofficial Austin event is appropriately named, as Texas MMA sees a resurgence of familiar shows.
Texascombatsports.com confirmed several match ups with King of Kombat officials, including a light heavyweight title fight between Strikeforce-vet Aaron Rosa (13-3) and Marcus Sursa (6-6), both of whom last fought for Bellator Fighting Championships.
The August event, which will emanate from Palmer Events Center, also features William Campuzano who, though most recently suffered a loss to Eddie Wineland, a former champion of that promotion, is still a WEC agent. Bellator veteran Johnny Bedford will also fight. Both Campuzano and Bedford are waiting on match ups.
Other confirmed match ups include:
Nick Gonzalez (15-8-1) vs. Tim Snyder (10-6-1)
Ryan Larson (5-1) vs. Derrick Krantz (8-2)
Andrew Chappelle (9-6) vs. Joseph “JR” Fuller (2-1)
Stay tuned to texascombatsports.com as the offical card will be announced this week…

Steele Cage card grows: After a 9-month hiatus, Steele Cage MMA returns to the DFW scene on August 4 with “The Iceman Invitational” at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. The event gets its name from a scheduled appearance and meet-and-greet with UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell as well as a “special tribute” to the former light heavyweight champ during the event.
Already slated for the main event is a welterweight match up between Joe “Jitsu” Christopher (10-3), who most recently submitted Brandon McDowell at Bellator 19 last month in Grand Prairie and Oklahoman Joey “The Takedown Wizard” Gorczynski (17-9).
Last week, Amarillo-native Douglas Frey (8-3), who also won at Bellator 19, announced his participation at Steele Cage as he takes on Joseph Sandoval (3-0).

Jason David Frank and Davis Sylvester to fight at “Puro Combate #1”: Best known for his role as the “Green Ranger” on the hit children’s show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Jason David Frank continues to build a new legacy when he makes his light heavyweight pro debut on Aug. 4 at Texas Cage Fightings’ “Puro Combate #1” in his hometown of Houston.
Frank made the announcement on last Tuesday night’s edition of Pure Adrenaline Radio, adding, “We had offers on the table from bigger companies. As a pro, I plan to put in my time and then get a bigger deal.” The Rising Sun Karate head instructor did not name an opponent.
Meanwhile, SWC promoter Davis Sylvester announced on his Facebook page and later confirmed with texascombatsports.com that he will seek to bounce back from a loss to Lewis McKenzie at SWC 11 last month as he takes on Nate Garza (2-2).

Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman rematch scheduled for UFC Fight Night 22 in Austin
MMAJunkie.com confirmed last week that Mac Danzig (19-8-1) and Matt Wiman (12-5) will resolve a controversial initial meeting.
Their original UFC 115 match was botched when referee Yves Lavigne stopped the fight while Mac Danzig was caught in a guillotine choke, thinking that Danzig had lost consciousness. Danzig immediately protested the stoppage and both verbally agreed to a rematch in the cage after the fight.
UFC Fight Night 22 takes place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas on September 15 and features a main event between former middleweight contender Demian Maia and Alan Belcher. The event will also air on Spike TV.
