In a not so shocking turn of events, the NBA, via e-mail to the Sacramento Bee, gave Kings fans a nice kick to the teeth at a time when excitement for a new season is at its highest. The day after training camp opens, the NBA has this to say:
“On the heels of the disappointing – but not surprising – action (or inaction) of the state and Cal Expo board, it is fair to say that the NBA has ceased its activities on the Sacramento arena front,” league representative John Moag said in an e-mail to The Bee. “However, we will continue to monitor and respond to the activities and options of others that might reasonably ensure the competitiveness and viability of the Kings’ franchise.”
Although this is news worthy information, it is not the type of news that we here at The Purple Panjandrum want to promote or focus on. The city of Sacramento, state of California, the NBA and the Kings have come up against this wall again and again without resolution. There is a lively discussion going on over at SacTown Royalty. If you want to hear the voice of Kings fans, I highly recommend giving them a visit.

The Maloofs have done a remarkable job building a new excitement for their struggling franchise. Ticket prices have been slashed. The product on the court is improving. The marketing department has done other worldly work, going as far as placing a 177 foot banner on a downtown Sacramento high rise. Not only is the timing horrible for this announcement, it is completely unnecessary. Voice your disappointment that a pie in the sky three way land swap deal fell through, but tell the fans that you are still working to find a solution. Today’s announcement is nothing more than a kill joy a day after Kings fans had so much to be optimistic about. End rant.
