Long before baseball’s off season was filled with $200 million contracts and allegations of domestic violence, some Major Leaguers filled the time between October and April with slam dunk contests.
And for some reason, Ken Griffey Jr. was a regular, having appeared in at least three of the things.
But the real story here isn’t the future Hall of Famer’s ability (or inability) to dunk with the best of them…it’s how goddamn impressive Kenny Lofton was on the basketball court.
The longtime journeyman outfield (he’d end up playing for eleven different teams) was the backup point guard on the Arizona Wildcats 1988 Final Four team before played baseball for a living. And, if this video shows us anything…could jump out of the gym.
