The Affleck Curse Continues in Boston

Before Friday night’s game against the Houston Astros, actor/director Ben Affleck delivered an ultimatum to his beloved Boston Red Sox…win or else.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsYou see, August 15 is the Academy Award winner’s birthday and ever since the release of “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, the Red Sox have failed to celebrate accordingly. That’s right…they’ve gone 0-14 on Affleck’s special day.

Unfortunately, this year would be no different.

The Red Sox took a 3-2 lead deep into the game only to see the Astros tie it in the eighth on a fielder’s choice. After a scoreless ninth…it was on to extra innings. In the top of the tenth with two men on and two out, Jake Marisnick hit a ground rule double that cleared the bases. And, you guessed it, that would signal the beginning of the end for Affleck’s allegiance to his boys from BeanTown.

Chances are, the future-Bruce Wayne will stay true to his hometown team, but, man, all the guy wants is a birthday win!  But who knows…maybe after being decked out in St. Louis Cardinals gear and appearing on screen in this fall’s “Gone Girl” will turn things around?  One can hope, right?!?

Oh, the last time Boston won on August 15? It was 1997 and Reggie Jefferson won it with a tenth inning single against the Minnesota Twins. A sidenote…none of the players involved in that 1997 game is still an active Major Leaguer.
