The Aftermath: (3/18/15) @ Edmonton Oilers

.

In a game where the Columbus Blue Jackets were badly outshot they were able to pull off the 4-3 shootout victory against the Edmonton Oilers. David Savard, Ryan Johansen and Mark Letestu scored for the Jackets who will next face the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow night.

Highlights:

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good: Curtis McElhinney

The Blue Jackets skaters truly did no favors for their goaltender but nonetheless they were able to pull out the victory. McElhinney was magnificent in stretches and lucky in stretches but he was still able to give them a .936 sv% and two saves in the shootout to ensure the victory. The Blue Jacket skaters will have to be better moving forward but for now they probably only need to buy McElhinney a beer.

The Bad: Everyone else

Not a lot of good to report back on. The Jackets probably left Rexall Place as quickly as possible to make sure that the hockey gods didn’t change their minds. After being thoroughly outplayed most of the game they were able to rely on one of the best shootout aces in the game, Ryan Johansen. The season is effectively over but lets hope that come next year games like this aren’t as common as they have been this year.

The Ugly: Rexall Place ice

How gross was the play at the end of each period? Can’t even imagine skating or playing on it on a nightly basis. For a Canadian arena you would think they would have this problem shored up or at least have the ice making perfected by this point, alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
