Hello combat sports fan and welcome to your daily dose of combat sports news. I am your host Ben Kohn and will be taking you along with me on the journey of our wild and wacky world of news.
- Michael Chandler set out to explain the loss to Will Brooks. Chandler makes no excuses at all, verifies he wasn’t poked in the eye, and basically says he doesn’t know why he waved it off before the finish. Chandler said he’ll be back to fight another day and while the fan in me applauds him, I am worried about his health if he can’t figure out why he acted the way he did.
- Ricardo Lamas is following up his big win over Bermudez by calling out McGregor, claiming he needs to fight a wrestler before getting a title shot. Conor responded via twitter, congratulating Dennis on a tough fight and he’s proud of him for wearing the same t-shirt line as him. McGregor proceeded to tell Lamas he doesn’t fight pussies who run for five rounds (reference to his title fight with Aldo), but he does indeed pound pussies.
- Speaking of Lamas, Chad Mendes called him out after his win via twitter. I like the idea of this fight because both are out of contention for a little while due to recent losses to the champ. Also, the fight would be fucking awesome. Book it Shelby!
- Bellator signed blue chip prospect Aaron Pico to a long term contract. Pico is just 18 years old and is an outstanding wrestler and former Golden Gloves champion in amateur boxing and while he was set on trying to make the 2016 US Olympic wrestling team, it appears he’s focused on MMA as of now. I truly hope he develops into an excellent fighter and look forward to watching him in the cage.
- King Mo called out Tito Ortiz, claiming he would “Django his ass” in reference to the Tarantino movie Django Unchained. Tito brushed off the challenge by telling him to get in line but I have hard time believing Bellator wouldn’t put these two in a cage together. Too much money and name value to avoid it, plus it kind of makes sense for them to make the fight anyway.
- Luke Rockhold stuck up for his friend, saying it would be unfair of the UFC to strip Cain of the title and that a title fight in Mexico vs. Werdum is the best way to go. He also said interim titles are not real titles, Cain is the champ, and Cain is untouchable. Pretty standard stuff to hear from a teammate but I do think he’s wrong. If Cain can’t have a match scheduled soon, Werdum should be crowned a champion, especially if he defends his belt.
That’s all we got for today’s daily dose and I do hope your cravings for news have been sated, at least for today. Join me tomorrow for another installment and partake in the bounty that I offer your thirst gullets. Enjoy your day my friends!
