The BBC Challenge reaches the Championship Game

Four months ago, we began an experiment in fantasy football, and we mixed in a little NCAA Conference rivalry.  We called it The BBC Challenge, and the goal was to declare a supreme conference.

We’ve reached the championship game, finally.

This weekend, the best players from the four major conferences (Big 10, Pac-10, SEC and Big 12) will again do battle to determine which collegiate league truly develops the best players.  It’s time to meet the teams that will determine our first champion.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet your warriors….the Big Ten team and the Pac-10 squad.

Last week, the Big Ten roughed up the Big 12 (although it was scary for a while when Drew Brees bombed and Vince Young played the best game of his NFL career) by a score of 96-63.  Meanwhile, every Pac-10 player dominated their opponents and completely destroyed the SEC 135-70.  That 135 points was the most scored in any week of action by any team this season, so obviously the Pac-10 comes into the championship game as a favorite to win.

Right now, the spread is 8 points.  Let’s see the lineups;

The Big Ten

QB Drew Brees, NO QB » Sun 1:00
RB Pierre Thomas, NO RB » Sun 1:00
RB Rashard Mendenhall, Pit RB » Sun 1:00
WR Derrick Mason, Bal WR » Sun 1:00
WR Santonio Holmes, Pit WR » Sun 1:00
WR Lee Evans, Buf WR » Sun 1:00
TE Dallas Clark, Ind TE » Sun 4:15
K Nate Kaeding, SD K » Fri 7:30

The Pac-10

QB Aaron Rodgers, GB QB » Sun 1:00
RB Steven Jackson, StL RB » Sun 4:05
RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB » Sun 1:00
WR DeSean Jackson, Phi WR » Sun 4:15
WR Chad Ochocinco, Cin WR » Sun 1:00
WR Steve Smith, NYG WR » Sun 1:00
TE Tony Gonzalez, Atl TE » Sun 1:00
K Ryan Longwell, Min K » Mon 8:30

At this point, everyone is healthy except for Steven Jackson, who is suffering from a back injury.  If he doesn’t get upgraded by gametime, he’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Jonathan Stewart or Justin Forsett.

Also, Rashard Mendenhall might be replaced as a starter.  The Steelers are taking on Baltimore’s defense, while the Big Ten might have a better shot with Marion Barber going up against Washington, or Laurence Maroney vs. Jacksonville.

The first player takes the field on Friday, when Nate Keading’s foot goes up against Tennessee.  We probably won’t have a winner declared until Monday night when the Pac-10 kicker, Ryan Longwell takes on Chicago.

Expect the best battle of the weekend to take place with the quarterbacks.  Aaron Rodgers is going up against Seattle, who is ranked #29 against the pass.  Meanwhile, Drew Brees, who is probably pretty motivated after his bad game against Dallas, goes up against a somewhat better pass defense in Tampa Bay (#8 against the pass).
