The three-point shot has changed the game of basketball. Not only has it changed many offensive schemes for teams, but it has also changed the roles of certain players.
In order to determine the best three-point shooters in Golden State Warriors history, there are a couple of factors that were considered. The first factor that was considered was how long the player was with the Warriors. Each player was also evaluated as a three-point shooter during just their time with the Warriors, not during their whole career. With that being said, here are some of the best three-point shooters in Warriors history:
Two of the best three-point shooters in Warriors history currently make up the Warriors backcourt. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, the Splash Brothers, are both deadly from three-point range.
In Thompson’s short two-year career with the Warriors, he has shot 40.6 percent from three. In the postseason last season, he shot 42.4 percent from three. Also, Thompson already ranks 10th in franchise history for total three-point field goals with 322. Thompson has a bright future ahead of him, and he’s only going to get better this upcoming season. He’s already one of the best three-point shooters in Warriors history, so it’s exciting to think about what he could accomplish in the future.
Curry, on the other hand, is, arguably, the best three-point shooter in Warriors history and could also become one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history. His quick release and the amount of arc he puts on his shot have made him one of the most accurate three-point shooters in Warriors history.
Over his four-year career, Curry has shot 44.6 percent from three, which ranks third in franchise history. He even shot 45.3 percent from three last season. Last season, he broke the NBA single-season mark for three-pointers with 272. Curry is currently second in the franchise history in three-point field goals with 644 in just four seasons.
Another candidate is Jason Richardson. He played six seasons with the Warriors and was a fan favorite. Richardson is the franchise leader in three-point field goals made with 700. Although Curry will certainly break this record during this upcoming season, Richardson was a successful three-point shooter in his time with the Warriors. As a Warrior, Richardson also took attempted the most three-point field goals in franchise history. Out of his 2,001 attempts, Richardson finished with a 35% three-point field goal percentage.
Tim Hardaway played for five and a half seasons with the Warriors. He ranks third in franchise history with 602 three-point field goals. He also attempted 1,697 three-point field goals, which ranks as the second most three-point field goal attempts in franchise history. As a Warrior, he shot 35.5% from three.
Chris Mullin played 13 seasons with the Warriors, and he shot 36.6% from three. Mullin made 590 three-point field goals, which ranks fourth in franchise history. He also attempted 1,610 three-point field goals, which also ranks fourth in franchise history.
Based on this research, it appears as if Curry is the best three-point shooter in Warriors history. Hopefully for Warriors fans, Curry will be a Warrior for many more seasons, if not, for his whole career, so he will most certainly accomplish even more in terms of three-point shooting records for the Warriors.
