2018 fWAR: 5.3

Javier Baez makes his living at a number of spots on the diamond. The strides he took on offense this past year, though, led to him playing in a career-high 160 games while accumulating 645 plate appearances. He finished with a 131 wRC+, the first time it’s crested over 100 since he debuted in 2014.

Baez also did a little bit of everything — he joined the 20-20 club with 34 homers and 21 steals, along with scoring 101 runs and collecting 111 RBI. What didn’t change was his aggressiveness — his 45.5% chase rate ranked second-highest in baseball. That was at least paired with a 78.0% swing rate on strikes, which was a single-season career high.
