Catcher: J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies
2019 fWAR: 5.7
For the second straight year, Realmuto finished as the most productive catcher in the big leagues. And while there are some changes going on in Philly with Joe Girardi recently being named manager, it looks like the backstop could be getting a long-term extension this winter.
Realmuto’s offensive progression since debuting with the Miami Marlins in 2014 has been fascinating to watch. With each following season, he’s registered new single-season career highs in home runs, runs scored, RBI, and fWAR. He also nearly did the same thing with his OPS, ISO, and wRC+.
Basically, the 28-year-old is continuing to get better as he enters the physical prime of his career. He enjoyed a career season with the Phillies thanks to a rise in production during the second half (97 to 122 wRC+ and .166 to .287 ISO). After spending years at Marlins Park, he also took advantage of having a more hitter-friendly home ballpark, posting a 123 wRC+ at Citizens Bank and a 93 wRC+ on the road.
