2019 fWAR: 8.5

Bregman starts the five-year, $100 million extension he signed last winter in 2020, but for this past year, he earned just over $640K. According to FanGraphs, his 8.5 fWAR is worth about $67.9 million. So, yea, the Astros are still getting a bargain despite dropping some serious money on their young third baseman.

This doesn’t include some of his plate-discipline numbers, either. After posting a 6.9% walk rate and 24.0% strikeout rate as a rookie, each of those numbers have improved every single year. Most recently, his walk rate settled in at 17.2%, while his strikeout rate was at 12.0%.
