The Bills SHOULDN'T play their starters Thursday

I was listening to Howard Simon today, and he was stating the Bills needed to play their starters on Thursday against the Detroit Lions to get their offense back on track. Plain and simple, Simon is dead wrong. First off, it’s preseason and you don’t want to risk any injuries when it’s only 10 days till the regular season starts. Simon stated the injury concern shouldn’t phase the Bills, because injuries can happen anytime. He used the Bengals Andre Smith injury as an example. If you hadn’t heard, Smith broke a bone in his foot only 3 days after signing with the Bengals in a non-contact drill. Simon failed to mention Smith was severely out of shape when signing, which I’m sure had something to do with his injury.

More importantly, if the Bills play their starters more, they would be going against the back-ups of the Lions. So how exactly would that make the Bills better? I’m sure the Bills would be successful, considering it’s the Lions and their back-ups. Preseason is about 2 things, establishing your depth chart and not getting hurt. It shouldn’t be used as measuring stick of breeding confidence into your system. Were the Bills woeful in preseason? Yes. Will scoring 21 first half points against the Lions propel them against the Patriots? No. The Bills need to just chill out, drink your Gatorade, and just kiss the preseason good bye. Thank god!
