The Blackburn Rovers are an unrelenting mess

VenkysblackburnThe Blackburn Rovers were purchased by Venky’s back in November of 2010. They promptly axed Sam Allardyce, and saw their standing in the Premier League plummet. They would have been relegated were it not for their strong position under Allardyce. In the 2011-12 season, with Allardyce’s successor, Steve Kean in control for the entire season, they managed to get relegated.

Kean somehow started the season in 2012-13 as the manager of the Rovers, but that didn’t last long. They then hired Henning Berg, and under Berg’s oversight, the Rovers dropped from a position where they could have played for a quick return to the Premiership to the bottom half of the table. Berg was fired after less than two months at the helm, and the Rovers grabbed Michael Appleton from Blackpool. He stabilized the team. They didn’t move up the table, but the free fall was over. Naturally, in March, he was fired after 2 months in control, and nobody has been hired as a replacement, because I assume nobody is stupid enough to take the job anymore.

To recap: The Rovers have fired three coaches this year, and in the past 3 seasons went from a top half of the Premier League team to bottom half of the Championship. Oh and they are operating at a 2 million pound/year loss, because they have a lot of highly paid players. I follow a lot of bad teams, but nobody matches the clusterfunk that Blackburn brings to the table. Hopefully they can hire a manager by the time next season rolls around

At least they aren’t Wolverhampton, who were just relegated for the second seasons in a row. Blackburn has a good shot at finding the drop again next year, though.

And that has been your cheery Blackburn season in review.
