Game 3 against Dallas was awesome. It was the perfect example of what the Blues can do when they keep their foot on the gas and play their game for a full 60 minutes. The result was a lopsided win which featured some nifty goals, a fight and even a blown kiss to the Stars’ bench.
You’ll notice there was nothing posted on this site about Game 3. Aside from the fact it was 11:30pm when the game wrapped (thanks NHL for the late start time), the overarching theme is that the Blues finally ditched their bad habit of sitting back with a lead. No further analysis needed.
However, there’s going to be some fallout and it’s coming in Game 4. Trailing 2-1 in the series, the Stars will obviously be trying to level things up in order to reclaim home ice advantage in the series before heading back to Dallas. They’ll be mad they were embarrassed in Game 3. They won’t be too happy about Reaves and his display of affection. They’ll have to throw everything at Brian Elliott to avoid falling too far behind and out of the series. It will be a physical, grueling affair which may even get out of hand if the officials aren’t able to manage the game.
The Blues need to keep the killer instinct they finally displayed in Game 3. It’s critical for the Blues to get a big series lead and close things out before the Stars have a chance to welcome back Tyler Seguin. History almost repeated itself against the Chicago Blackhawks and it’d be wise for the Blues to avoid tempting fate by letting Dallas claw back into the mix just in time for their star to return.
