With the 22nd Winter Olympic Winter Games right around the corner, the final countdown is on before countries choose their hockey team for the Games which kick-off on Sunday, February 23 in Sochi. The Blues should be well represented not only in Team USA but other countries vying for gold at the Games.
One possible contender from the Blues is Olympian T.J Oshie who was considered a long shot for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics but ended up performing well. Nearly four year later, the player remains modest but hopeful for a spot on the American team.
"I think now I've put myself in a good position to where I've established myself as an NHL player," Oshie said. "Now it just comes down to me playing the same way and playing well.” Oshie is a more mature player than he was four years ago and certainly someone whom the country could count on; the 5-11, 189-pound right ring is playing well for the Blues.
Other hopefuls from the Blues include Kevin Shattenkirk and David Backes who was so confident that he appeared in the recently released “12 Days of Sochi” music video which did the rounds last week on YouTube along with other hopefuls.
The Blues should be well represented at the Russian Winter Games but not all will play for Team USA. Alexander Steen and Alex Pietrangelo are slated to play for Team Canada, Jaroslav Halak hopes to play for Team Bratislava, and Patrik Berglund hopes to play for Sweden.
It will be interesting to see teammates take each other on for national glory; stakes are high and betting will be prevalent. For now, Jack Gold Mobile Slots will have to suffice until the teams take to the ice at the 12 000-seater Bolshoy Ice Dome – which resembles a a Fabergé egg!
For Oshie, it “would mean everything to me and my family. I don't know if I can express what it would be like until it actually happens."
