The Briefing for 11/27

-You gotta wonder what Ryan Fitzpatrick is thinking after this week. First, he gets Jerry Sullivan to ask him if he’d run down Hertel Avenue in his boxers, if he throws for 30 touchdowns (In a nutshell: Sully made a bet with Jeremy White of WGR, about running down Hertel Ave. in his boxers, if Fitz throws for 30). Of course, Fitz said, “no thanks.” Secondly, the QB starts hearing the song “Fitzmagic”on the radio, produced by Nick Mendola, from WECK. I swear, Fitzpatrick’s reaction must be something like this: “What the hell have I walked into with this city? Can you imagine what would happen if we were in the playoffs?”- (Click “Read more” for the rest of the article)

-Memo to Stevie Johnson: Lets try scoring some touchdowns at Ralph Wilson Stadium! I’m kidding, as Stevie can do no wrong on this blog, but in his four games at Ralph Wilson Stadium, the wideout has 14 catches for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Now, he has played two more games away from The Stadium (including Toronto), but his numbers are far more better on the road ( 38 catches-570 yards-6 TDs)-

-For the majority of the season, the only blemish that I saw with Coach Gailey (Besides starting 0-8) was that he didn’t have a balanced enough attack on offense. Too many times, the Bills relied heavily on Fitzpatrick to win games (151 pass attempts in a three game span doesn’t work). At one point in the season, the Bills were ranked 22nd in rushing attempts, which surely didn’t help out Fitz or the offense. Now, the Bills have won two in a row, and the balanced attack seems to be working for the offense. Fred Jackson has two straight 100-yard games and the Bills pass/run ratio in that span is dead even (58 rushing and passing attempts)-

-So, what is your favorite Shawne Merriman moment? The day he tweeted that he was coming to Buffalo? His epic 7 and half minute press conference? The way the Bills team store ripped up Kawika Mitchell’s name tag off his old jerseys and replaced them with Merriman’s name? Too bad we couldn’t get his reality star g/f, Tequila (Or is it Vodka?) to come on down to Buffalo.  I really hope you didn’t buy his jersey. BTW, I don’t know, but something just doesn’t add up. It’s just the whole getting injured 15 minutes into practice that bugs me. I just can’t place my finger on it, but it just smells. Now, I’m not a rumor monger, so I’m going to leave it at that-

-BTW, there are going to be a TON of Steelers fans at this game. Lots of annoying “Here we go Steelers” chants will be echoing throughout-

-I just have to say, I really despise Randy Moss. He has destroyed 3 of my 4 fantasy football teams-

– I once declared that I’d would blog more about fantasy football, but I just couldn’t find an ideal way to talk about it. I’ll just say this, Philip Rivers has been a stud this year. To think he’s thrown for 23 touchdowns with a makeshift wide receiving core, is pretty remarkable. He’s starting to remind me of what Tom Brady was before he got Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Just a guy that you can always find in the 3rd or 4th round, who will always put up 25-30 TDs. Sooner or later, he’s going to go in the 1st or 2nd rounds-

-This has really been a great year for waiver pick ups: Stevie Johnson, Payton Hillis, both Mike Williams, Brandon Llyod, Darren McFadden and Hakeem Nicks. Of course, I wasn’t smart enough to pick up any of these guys in any of my leagues-

-I just finished reading Jim Kelly’s 1992 book with Vic Carucci. Have to say, I didn’t really learn much about him. Kind of dull if you ask me. I’ll say this though, and it should come to no one’s surprise, he mentioned the word “Beer” and “Liquor” like 10-15 times-

-To keep going with the theme of “Joe’s book corner,” even if you’re not a soccer fan (I’m not), you should pick up The Beckham Experiment. I know it has been out for over a year, but it’s a great book, detailing the inner sanctum of a locker room, and also shows you how crazy the handlers of a mega superstar can get-

-Anyone think that we should just waive Craig Rivet or buy him out? I mean, what is the point for him being on this team? So we can get about 30 updates about his mood after practice? So he can cheer from the press box? So he can go downstairs and yell at Hecht and Pominville for playing like crap? Yeah, I’m sure those players will just look at him, as if he were Kirstie Alley, telling them that they needed to lose weight. I know that waiving him would be a problem, because no team on God’s green earth would pick him up. However, if I’m Regier, I’d see if they can buy him out. Hey, they bought out Tim Kennedy (Albeit, Rivet would cost way more). Just put the dude out of his misery-

-Good to see Patrick Kaleta have a nice game against the Leafs on Friday night. A fight and a goal are enough to keep the typical Buffalo fan’s appetite at ease. I’d like to see more intensity from the Buffalo native, as he hasn’t shown the same all-around game that he had last season-

-After being totally psyched about watching the Sabres vs Habs game in HD on the NHL Network, I came away wondering, is this really it? I know it’s probably too early to say that they are toast, but they just aren’t good enough. I know Tiny Tim and Drew Stafford are hurt, but really? Do you see those two guys as game breakers? I just don’t see much out of this squad, with or without those guys. I just think the team’s make-up is a little stale, which is something that I’ve been saying all summer and into this season. I know the rally cry will become “lets just get in the playoffs” and then some apologists will just spue off a bunch of stats about 8th seeds going to the Finals. Even still, do you really think if this team gets in the playoffs, they can do damage? I don’t-
