Jrue Holiday (14 points and 11 assists) and Spencer Hawes (16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks off the bench) both post double-doubles to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 84 – 75 victory over Andre Iguodala and the Denver Nuggets in the Sixers’ season and home opener.
It was a sloppy game for both teams as they combined for 38 total turnovers (Den: 22, PHI: 16).
Despite the lack of ball security, the Sixers never trailed after taking a 7-6 lead early in the first quarter.
Philadelphia was in total control of the game after leading 46-38 at the half, and then by 13 at the end of three quarters (65-52), but the Nuggets never went away.
Denver put together a 16-2 run to cut the Sixers 14-point lead to 1 (71-70) with less than four minutes to go in the 4th.
Hawes and co. countered with a 13-5 run to end the game.
Five-of-eight players that made a basket for the Sixers scored in double digits.
Iguodala had only 11 points in his return to Philly.
Ty Lawson led the Nuggets in scoring with 16 points and added seven assists.
The Sixers next game is on Sunday at the Garden against the New York Knicks.
