Ladies and gentlemen… your 2015 St. Louis Cardinals!
At least until an early season injury and or trade and or promotion and or demotion comes into play. But for this moment… your 2015 St. Louis Cardinals!
Notes:
+ Once Jaime Garcia went on the DL, it assured Carlos Martinez of that 5th starter spot, if for nothing else than service time and the ability for Marco Gonzales to go to AAA and work on his new pitches.
+ Peter Bourjos did not have a good spring. He’s currently batting .150 with an OBP of .244. He was never in real danger of not making this roster, though. He has 7 runs scored and appears to be fully healthy – he’s currently at 5 steals for the spring. He can be an asset for a team that is expected to need to grind out runs late in games.
+ The bullpen, while set for a while now, still features 3 new faces – Walden, Belisle and Villanueva. It’ll be fun to watch how the Cardinals use these new guys and they blend in with the returning relievers.
+ Randal Grichuk wasn’t a sure thing for the roster when the spring started (Ty Kelly was an option), but you figured since he was so prominently played in the ’14 postseason, he’d get more than a fair shot to make the team. He did just that with a slash line of .256/.373/.558 (through Tuesday).
+ Pete Kozma is out of options. So his spring was pretty much do or die. He came through and figures to be the super sub for the Cardinals to start the season. BTW – anyone ever ask Jason Heyward about this night?
