The Cardinals Have Signed Mark Reynolds

The Cardinals have singed free agent corner IF Mark Reynolds:

The Cardinals had been rumored to be interested in Reynolds for the past week. He’s a RH bat that can spell Matt Adams at 1B against LH pitchers and provides some much needed thump off the bench in PH situations.

Here’s a Photoshop thread where he’s ‘doing things‘.

And him with (Leonardo? Donatello?):

The Cardinals aren’t done for the offseason, but they’re close. They’ll look to add a bit more bullpen depth and a starter – if someone falls through the cracks and they think they can add value.

No, they won’t be getting Max Scherzer. You can put that idea to bed after Jon Lester got 155M from the Cubs and sources immediately started chattering about his agent (Boras) looking for 200M+.

So your 2015 Cardinals are pretty much set.

Some other Mark Reynolds notes:

  • He’s hit 20+ HRs in all the seasons he’s played 130 games or more in his career. He has 224 HRs in 8 seasons.
  • Career 14.3 WAR.
  • Get ready for some strikeouts. Reynolds led the NL in SO for 4 seasons… in a row! (’08-’11)
  • His defense at 3B is suspect, committing either the 1st or 2nd most errors at the position from ’08-’11 and has the 5th most errors at the position of any active player.

Welcome to the good side, Mark.
