Round 1: Fight!

Josh Burkman doesn’t believe that Jon Fitch has earned the right to face him immediately for the World Series of Fighting Welterweight Championship.

(Well, then. I didn’t realize we all needed to respect and protect the prestige of the World Series of Fighting Welterweight Championship that, a. Doesn’t exist, and b. Burkman doesn’t possess. I don’t even like Fitch that much, personally, but he’s one of the greatest welterweights of all time and has earned the right to walk into ANY promotion on this planet and ask for a title shot. Burkman is shortsighted. Good matchups mean good business, and if he’s so confident in his abilities, he should WANT Jon Fitch like hell to boost his own stock. 10-9 WSOF for not listening and going ahead with it.)

Round 2: Fight!

Melvin Guillard is a man without a country.

(Yikes. Melvin’s never been known for his judgement, but leaving a camp and announcing your return at a camp before knowing that they unanimously voted to keep you out? Yeeeesh. Maybe most troubling is that those votes included Donald Cerrone and Leonard Garcia. I find it hard to believe Cerrone, who’s doing great things at his ranch for fighters, wouldn’t have an open door for him. Tough to pick a winner here, as Greg Jackson has shown favoritism and hypocrisy in dealing with his fighters.)

Round 3: Fight!

Hayabusa apologizes for Georges St. Pierre’s “Rising Sun” gi.

(One could argue with Chan Sung Jung’s heavyhanded swastika comparison, but it’s better to err on the side of caution when it comes to a culture’s history and wounds. Good on Hayabusa for getting out in front of it, good for Zombie for not being afraid to be complacent and speak out about something he obviously feels passionate about, good on GSP for doing the right thing, because GSP always does the right thing, and double-good on CSJ for using “reckon” in his statement. God, I love that guy. 10-8s all around!)

Who Won the Day?
It doesn’t suck to be Adonis Stevenson right now. Two days after he knocked out Darnell Boone, avenging his only loss, he’s fighting for the Light Heavyweight Championship against Chad Dawson in his hometown. Nice weekend.
