The Daily Sniper: News and notes from last night’s action…
Eastern Conference Finals, Game 1: Ottawa 5, Buffalo 2 Is it just me or it is really weird seeing Todd Bertuzzi in a Red Wings’ uniform? That just doesn’t look right. Fashion aside, the first game of the Western Conference Finals had everything you could want in a hockey game, save for spectacular goals. Boatloads of great saves, multiple shots off the iron, the Dominator standing on his head, and even a fight or two. High octane hockey all around. Main story of the evening was Dominick Hasek, by far. Every talking head was singing his praises before the series, and you can bet the singing is only going to get louder. The Dominator stopped 31 of 32 shots, and helped Detroit hold the Ducks to a big 0-for-7 on the power play. |

On the flip side, the Red Wings got a pair of ‘fluke’ power play goals and put only 19 shots on goal, but it was good enough for the win. With about five minutes to go, Nick Lidstrom’s shot from the point deflected off of Tomas Holmstrom in front, trickled towards the net, and eventually found its way in after getting tangled up with Anaheim’s Francois Beauchemin. That would be the difference in the game as the Wings would hold on for the win.
