the danger Zone (Men’s College Volleyball)

WELCOME TO THE DANGER ZONE

Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, has added men’s volleyball to its athletic lineup for the 2015 – 2016 academic year. By my count, that makes seven men’s VB programs in Iowa, six NAIA and one NCAA D III. Welcome to the MCVB Danger Zone, Briar Cliff!

RETURNING TO DANGER ZONE ACTION

Canadian men’s college Volleyball has kicked off their 2014 – 2015 season. Yes, in Canada the men’s season starts in the fall, not the spring. Welcome back to the Danger Zone of MCVB, Canada!

As a quick refresher, there are two separate, major divisions of Canadian collegiate Volleyball – Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) for larger schools and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for smaller schools.

CCAA is composed of five affiliated athletic associations: the Pacific West Conference (PAC West), the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), the Reseau du Sport Etudiant du Quebec (RSEQ) which translates into English as the Student Sports Network of Quebec, and the Atlantic Coast Athletic Conference (ACAA).  Play actually began in the ACAC this week.

CIS is comprised of four affiliated athletic conferences: a different segment of the RSEQ, the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), the Canada West Conference (West), and the Atlantic University Sport (AUS). Play in the CIS will begin October 9.

Like the song says: “Out along the edge is always where I burn to be. The further on the edge, the hotter the intensity. Highway to the Danger Zone! I’m gonna take you right into the Danger Zone. Highway to the Danger Zone. Right into the Danger Zone.” From the song “Danger Zone” with music by Giorgio Moroder, lyrics by Tom Whitlock, and immortalized by the Kenny Loggins performance for the movie Top Gun.   Let’s grow the game together!
