Saturday night, the Boston Celtics faced the Philadelphia Sixers in an elimination game at the TD Garden. As I wrote in the playoff preview post, I expected Boston to finish it in six, but the Sixers played great at home and forced a game 7 in bean town. This was a very close game late in the fourth quarter were the Sixers cut their deficit to one but Boston kept on knocking at the front door. The top scorers for the Sixers were Elton Brand with 15 points, Andre Iguodala with 18 points and Jrue Holiday with 15 points.
The Sixers could not out run the Celtics while their top scorers were Rajon Rondo, 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, who had an amazing triple double. Paul Pierce scored 15 points and Brandon Bass had 16 points while Kevin Garnett finished up with 18 points and 13 rebounds. With under five minutes left in a close game, Paul Pierce fouled out after being called for a charge. However, the Celtics did not let that slow them down. Rajon Rondo scored nine points and hit his first three pointer in five games. In addition, Ray Allen made a pair of 3’s late in the fourth, which was a huge excitement to see Ray make some behind the line. This was a historical night for Boston players as Larry Bird and Rajon Rondo are the only players in Celtics history to have a triple double in a game 7. In 1984, Larry Bird faced the Knicks in the East Conference Semis and finished with 39 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. The Sixers and Celtics will continue to be a great rivalry game in the years to come.
I believe that both teams played a great series even though the Sixers were a young team they gave Boston a run for their money. Nonetheless, the dynasty continues for the Boston Celtics as they are already down 0-1 in the series with the Miami Heat. Be sure to watch Game 2 tonight on ESPN at 8:30 pm for tipoff in South Beach.
