It’s time once again for Oregon’s oldest and arguably most well known fight promotion to put on another show. This Saturday night, the Full Contact Fight Federation (FCFF) will be setting up shop for Rumble at the Roseland 82 in Portland. This long running fight series that has been taking place at the Roseland Theater in heart of downtown since 2002 has again filled a card full of local talent looking to impress the crowd. Over the years, FCFF has been a starting point for many of the Pacific Northwest’s finest fighters, including Pat and Ryan Healy, Josh Haynes, Chael Sonnen, Chris Leben and former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner.
The action for the night breaks down like this: Three title fights, two professional bouts, and seven fights on the undercard. In total, that’s twelve fights to look forward to that evening. The card is as follows:
- 160 lb Catch-weight (Pro): Brian Nuro vs. Raven Guice
- Featherweight (Pro): Carson Frei vs. Justin Mark
- Featherweight: Kevin Boehm vs. Nate Sarate
- Featherweight: April Santa Anna vs. Leanne Foster
- Middleweight: John Simon vs. Jaysun Frost
- Lightweight: Nate Adams vs. Thomas Patrick
- Welterweight: Ray Hill vs. Matt Russo
- Light Heavyweight: Clayton York vs. Jordan Burum

- Jeramy Burford vs. Hiroyuki Tetsuka
*As with all MMA events this card is subject to change
This card features a few standout performers that people should keep a close eye on. The night’s main-event is one that FCFF fans will definitely be excited to see. Fan favorite Bryan Nuro will back making his return to the cage in what will be his second professional bout when he takes on the explosive Raven Guice. Nuro is well known to fans of the local amateur fight circuit as he tore through his first seven opponents before turning pro last April. In that time, he held both the lightweight and welterweight titles for the FCFF and earned a reputation as a fighter to watch. In Guice, Nuro will be fighting an explosive athlete who needs to prove he can best a submission fighter. Guice has two career losses and both came from submission fighters inside the first round. If Guice can keep off his back and use his cardio to push this fight into the second and third round, he will have a much better chance of securing a win. Nuro trains at Impact Jiu Jitsu and will most likely looking to get this one to the mat so he can secure the submission.
A title fight with a lot of hype behind it is the matchup between Kevin Boehm and Nate Sarate. Boehm fights out of Eugene at Art of War MMA. He was recently on a 3-0 run and was building a lot of momentum before a first round submission loss and a TKO due to injury brought any momentum he had to a screeching halt. Now back from injury, he will be looking to right the ship by bringing home the gold. Across the cage from Boehm will be the undefeated Nate Sarate. Sarate is 5-0 and will look to earn his first ever title. Training at Rose City FC in Portland has prepared Sarate well for this matchup. For Sarate, a win in this fight could mean it’s time to turn pro, at 30 years old time could be slipping away from the featherweight. If he wants to make the transition the time is now. Both Sarate and Boehm are known as fighters with aggressive styles; if styles make fights, this one promises to be fast paced and exciting.
The fight that I will have my eye on, however, is Justin Mark versus Carson Frei. This fight features two young fighters who have yet to define themselves at the professional level. After stellar amateur careers, both Frei and Mark started their professional careers with a loss. In the case of Mark it was back-to-back losses. Mark has since secured his first pro win and will be looking to get back to even with a win over the much-hyped Frei. Getting back to .500 will not only give Mark the first winning streak of his career, but will give him more options for future fights. He is mostly known for his jiu jitsu but that might prove problematic because so is Frei. If this fight reaches a stalemate on the ground this one could turn into a standup war. Carson Frei is a young fighter with a lot of hype behind him. Bellator standout Dave Jansen once said that he believes Frei is a future champion in the sport and expects him to make waves from the start. With praise like that, it is no wonder Frei has been tagged a fighter to watch when he only has one pro fight under his belt. Frei trains at Rose City FC and there are rumors that he is used by a lot of pros to prepare for quick opponents. If he is as fast as people say, his speed might be the difference in this matchup. A fight like this truly represents the start of a fighter’s young blueprint and it seems like both of these fighters want to draw their own plans.
The FCFF has once again built a card that is more than worth the money. After putting on shows for thirteen years at the Roseland Theatre, the FCFF keeps finding ways to impress the fans and keep them coming back. So do you want to be ahead of the curve? Do you want to see the next big stars from the Pacific Northwest before they make their way to Bellator or the UFC? If so, come to Rumble at the Roseland 82 this Saturday night.
